Travelling? How to arrive with happy skin

We love to travel here at Evolu – and with our products stocked across New Zealand and around the world, we get to travel a lot! But when you are flying long haul or are visiting extreme climates, travel can be hard on the skin. Here are some of our top tips for travel skincare:

Air Travel

One of the best things you can do for skin when flying long haul is to prepare it before you go. “Make sure you have exfoliated and hydrated ahead of time,” Evolu founder Kati Kasza advises. “I like to do a facial the night before a trip. The products I use for my skin type (mature with a tendency to dry) are the Relaxing Creme Cleanser, Renewing Facial Exfoliator, Facial Toner, and then an application of the Rescue Masque overnight.”

During the flight it’s important to hydrate from the inside out – drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol, caffeine and overly salty food. Take travel sizes of your skincare on the plane so you can properly cleanse and moisturize your skin while in the air, paying particular attention to the eye area, as it’s the first to show signs of dehydration.

I recently flew long haul with my two young children and Evolu’s Rescue Masque and Facial Toner were fantastic for the flight. There was no time for relaxing but a regular spritz of toner kept my skin looking and feeling refreshed. I also cleansed a couple of times during the flight and put on a thick slick of the Rehydration rescue masque – it’s transparent so you can’t even tell that it’s on. Despite having zero sleep I arrived at my destination looking reasonably well rested.

Climate

Different climates require different skincare, especially if you have mature or sensitive skin. In hot and humid climates it’s important to drink plenty of water, and cleanse well. Kati says: “I love using the Regulating Gel cleanser morning and night when I’m in hot and humid climates, and I can’t go anywhere without my travel sized Facial Toner. I find a parasol is a great way to keep my skin protected from the sun – it’s often too hot to cover up and so a UV protected parasol is perfect. They are everywhere in Asian countries.”

Cold climates are the other extreme, but again require plenty of internal hydration for the skin. Kati says: “My skin always seems to want to shed layers in the cold. I recently went to Queenstown and I couldn’t believe how dry my skin became literally overnight. The Smoothing body lotion and Nourishing hand cream really came into their own. My skin just soaked these products up and the dryness was managed.”

What to Pack

Space is always an issue when packing, and one of the best ways to save space is to choose multi tasking products. Kati says Evolu’s hand cream is brilliant for flyaway hair, “after applying it to dry hands and cuticles, run your hands through your hair and it will also give it some nice shine.” She also recommends the Healing Lip Treatment as it doubles as both an everyday lip balm and a treatment for cold sores and sunburned or chapped lips.

And Evolu’s handy Travel Tower is our number one space saver, featuring small pottles of your skincare favourites conveniently stacked together. It’s perfect for throwing into carry on luggage, and is refillable when you travel again.
