Energize yourself this winter

winter walkIt is scientifically proven that people feel happier when the weather is warmer – don’t let this apply to you. Be happy all year round by using these healthy ways to keep your endorphins alive this winter:

1. Stock up on Vitamins, especially Vitamin D. Taking vitamin D capsules during the winter will have numerous health benefits including contributing to a healthy immune system, aiding the absorption of calcium, anti-inflammatory benefits, lowers blood pressure and helps to prevent a string of diseases, one of which being depression.

2. Give yourself a makeover. Guaranteed to make you feel better on the inside and out. Start by giving yourself a mini facial. I recommend beginning with Evolu’s Relaxing Creme Cleanser, then gently exfoliate using the Renewing Facial Exfoliator, followed either a Purifying Mask and/or Rehydration Rescue Masque, the Facial Toner, and finishing off with your favourite Evolu Facial Moisturiser for your particular skin type.

3. Decrease your intake of carbs, as they will make you feel more lethargic. Satisfy your cravings with high protein meals instead, which when eaten in smaller proportions and more often, they will speed up your metabolism and keep your energy levels high.

4. Don’t forget to drink water. Even if you aren’t as thirsty in the winter, it is essential that you continue to drink a sufficient amount of water to keep hydrated. If warm drinks seem more appealing then drink herbal teas packed with anti-oxidants and good for your immune system.winter walk 2

5. Always make time for exercise, and when it’s sociable, it makes it that much more enjoyable. Find a friend to help you commit to 30 minutes a day, whether it’s taking advantage of those crisp winter mornings or opting for an indoor activity like the gym, pilates, yoga or a sport.

6. Grow something indoors this winter. There is something calming about the smell of dirt and fresh greenery around you. If the weather is stopping you from getting outside to the garden – bring the garden inside. Herbs, indoor pot plants and even freshly cut flowers make for a nicer living environment. Adding a little greenery to your interiors will also improve the quality of your air, turning carbon dioxide into oxygen and absorbing majority of pollutants.

7. When you get out of bed, drink a cup of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon in it. It will kick-start your metabolism for the day, it is great for your skin, contains vitamin C and will cleanse your insides.

8. Have a little fun with your winter accessories. For me, the best part about this season has always been pulling out my boots, scarves and chunky knits, not to mention the finishing touch – a deep shade of lipstick, either a rich plum or delicious red are my picks this Winter.
